Underwater Naturalist

Underwater Naturalist

Look closer to see more on your next dive. Look for symbioses, predator/prey and other relationships between aquatic plant and animal life. Learn not just what fish and animals are, but how they interact with each other and the environment. It will open your eyes to the wonders that are just below the surface of your local dive site, even in lakes and quarries.

To Start

How do I get started?
As with all of the diving education programmes at Plan2Dive you start with the training materials. A deposit of £50 is required to book your PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty. We will provide you with the PADI Underwater Naturalist manual for you to read prior to the start of your training.

Action

What will I do?
During your programme you will cover the following:

The major aquatic life groupings and their interactions and factual information that dispels negative myths
The role of aquatic plants, food chains and predator/prey relationships
Responsible interactions with aquatic life
The underwater naturalist’s view of organisms and their roles in the environment

You will have one and a half days of intense underwater naturalist training to complete. In our fully equipped multi-media classrooms you will learn why some creatures behave the way they do and what their role is in the aquatic ecosystem.

You will put into practice what you learn in a combination of skills in two open water training dives.

Time

How long will it take?
The PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty takes place over one weekend. Starting on the Friday evening you will complete the theory sections from the PADI Underwater Naturalist manual.

The Saturday will cover all the practical sessions during your two open water training dives.

You can arrange with your instructor to continue to gain experience on the Sunday by using the equipment from the programme to do some more diving before handing it back in on the Sunday afternoon. The extra days equipment hire is included in the cost of your programme.
